HCMK Recap: If I Were a TWoP Recapper...

Glossary

Among the phrases and terms you will see in the recap...

The Vortex: Its long name is "The Vortex of Characters That Once Were But We Refuse To Acknowledge Ever Again". This is where I imagine all the characters we remember from the series that are either not acknowledged in the film (see: the Keiths, the Dean sisters, Izzy and Morgan Pettibone, and (to a large extent) Sara Stanley) or have a small part in the film but inexplicably disappear without any follow-up as to their whereabouts (see: Aunt Eliza Ward and Elbert Werts) have been dispersed to.

Sap-o-Meter: Borrowed from the Avonlea Guide, the level of "sappiness" seen throughout the film, or how often you may want to be reaching for your nearest box of Kleenex, or a hankie.

Ashley Prototype: One of Hetty's female students who wears glasses (pictured below) and is seen hanging out with Libby Hubble--who was played by Lauren Collins, who would later portray Paige Michalchuk on Degrassi: The Next Generation. In the beginning of the Degrassi: TNG series, Paige is friends with Ashley Kerwin (Melissa McIntyre), who was sometimes Paige's voice of reason.

Master Drill Sargeant: Reference to Hetty King, who has been known to use bullying and "a drill" to get her students to cooperate, according to Ada Hubble. Drill Sargeants may also be bullies (mainly to bring their trainees down in order to build them back up again).

Pwned: Internet/chat speak for "owned", meaning someone's arguement about something has just trumped someone else's.

The Mantra: "Head high, shoulders back, purpose firm, and never slack". To Hetty, it's the solution to everything.

"J'accuse!" Mode: When one character starts accusing another character of something--e.g., Janet accusing Hetty (and later Alec) for being the ones responsible for Felix going missing in Europe.

Our Dynamic Duo: Hetty King and Rachel Lynde.

The Lyndester: Rachel Lynde. 'Nuff said.

The Potts: Clara Potts. 'Nuff said there, too.

Felicity's Lazy Susan of Careers: A figurative spinning wheel with various careers--schoolhouse teacher, medical student/doctor, foundling home owner, orphanage worker, teacher for the hearing impaired--laid out on it.

The 1914 White Pickle Box Tour: Alec going out to give "white boxes"--filled mostly with pickles--to Avonlea's poor folk.

Matron Lady: The woman in charge of the orphanage in Carmody. Oddly enough, she is played by Megan Follows' mother, Dawn Greenhalgh, who was Mrs. Cadbury--head of the Hopetown Asylum--in the first Anne miniseries.

Fake Felix: "Visions" of Felix that Janet has--first in her house, but more notably on the streets of Charlottetown during a parade.

Marion Bennett's "young Hetty voice": In the episode "Memento Mori", Mairon Bennett (Jane in Lantern Hill, Colleen Wells/Pritchard in the episode "A Time To Every Purpose", and Zach Bennett's older sister) provided the voice of a young Hetty King. (A different actress, Megan Kitchen, supplied the body. The need for two actresses to work their mojo to bring young Hetty to life in that episode is in and of itself a mystery. I digress.)

Personality-altering aliens: Extra-terrestrial beings blamed for, among things: 1) Olivia suggesting that Jasper is irresponsible (when he's not); 2) the citizens of Avonlea acting like it's the Apocalypse when Hetty has to have surgery yet again; 3) Hetty and Rachel acting like a couple of teenyboppers when going to see Wilfred Ainsley perform in Charlottetown.

Newsman-doctor (hybrid): Dr. Page (or is it Paige?), who was Hetty's main doctor and surgeon in Charlottetown. To me, he sounded very much like a newscaster.
