Kristen and I had been e-mailing each other back and forth for a while (about a couple months or so). Then up came the events of the final episode, "So Dear to My Heart," and how we felt it was good, but rushed. So then we got to thinking, "What if there was an eighth season of Avonlea?" and this site was born. Now grab your favorite beverage and snacks, sit back, and read the "series premiere" of Road to Avonlea--The Lost Season and discover that Avonlea Lives On!

OPENING CREDITS

SCENE: The Back side of King Farm. Sara is helping Felicity clean up some of streamers from the Pike/King wedding. (On screen: "After the Wedding Is Over")

Felicity: I'm so glad you came; it really wouldn't feel right without you.

Sara: When I heard you were getting married to Stuart McRae, I was happy for you, but when I heard that Gus was alive and you were getting married, I was ecstatic and on the first boat out of Paris.

Felicity: After Aunt Hetty went with me to Charleston, South Carolina to find Gus, she swore that ships weren't fit for travel of any civilized women. So when she heard that you were coming home to Avonlea, she worried herself sick for days. Not to mention that so many things were changing in our dear Avonlea.

Sara: Okay, I want to hear about this whole Gus thing and how your life has been like a fairy tale with a "happily ever after".

Felicity: Well, it all started a few days before Stuart and I were to be married. Aunt Hetty was in her usual tiffle because no one asked for her approval of this marriage. You know how she gets.

Sara: Yeah, I know all about it! She must have written a dozen times to see if I was okay and that things were going well in Paris. Anyway, continue.

Felicity: Well anyway, Mother and Aunt Olivia were making my wedding dress when we got a telephone call at King Farm for the long distance operator in Charleston, South Carolina. The call wasn't very clear but I had this feeling it had to be Gus. We were meant to be together. All the woman said on the other end was that there was a sailor asking for me. I guess since his ship went down there, I believed her so much and was drawn there. So, of course, Aunt Hetty had to come, even though everyone else thought we were chasing a ghost and told me to let go.

Sara: She has always liked Gus even when he was un-educated. Remember when he came to school that day with bare feet and his fiddle under his arm? I wish I was here with you because I understand that you can't lose hope for your true kindred spirit, especially when it's Gus. Not so say that I'm jealous; I'm sure I'll find my beau sometime; it's just that Gus is the finest gentleman I know.

Felicity and Sara are now on their way up to the Foundling Home to take some decorations there, while Cecily and Felix have taken the Deans to the beach to help the happy couple get some work done. Gus is spending the day with Dr. Snow to get his eyes checked.

Felicity: Thanks, I know I'm lucky to have him. So on our boat that we traveled on, Aunt Hetty had extreme sea sickness. And we met a kind gentleman named Horace Beck who showed us around Charleston, then later helped us find Gus. We had almost given up hope when we walked by a church and heard the choir singing the same song I had heard on the phone a few weeks earlier in the background. When the choir came out we found the people whose house he was staying at.

Sara: So I take it that's when the fairy tale began, but how did Gus get to be blind?

Felicity: Well, at first he wanted to stay there because he thought I wouldn't love him anymore because he was blind; but after Mr. Beck and Aunt Hetty talked to him, he changed his mind and came home to the sweetest spot in the world, our Avonlea, because he knew that Avonlea is where so many people cared for him, not because they felt sorry for him, but they loved and cherished him for what he is. Although, when we got home, Stuart and Gus knew nothing of each other; and, of course, Stuart was heart-broken.

Sara: That is sooooo romantic!! So you and Gus will be living at the Foundling home for a while with the Dean Children? That must be fun to make a difference in those childrens' lives! That Callie Dean is such a cute little lady!

Felicity: Yeah, we'll be living there for a while, I guess, until there are no more children and Gus and I have another place to go to. Do you remember the grove that we used to play in as children?

Sara: Oh yeah, that's the one where Stuart McRae started building your house, right?

Felicity: Yeah, it feels awkward to walk past there. But when Stuart and I used to walk through there, we found the box with yours, mine and Felix's hopes for the future.

Sara: Oh, I remember that!! I probably said something like, "Get married to someone special", or something like that!

By now they are in Felicity's bedroom. Sara is flipping through Felicity's many dresses in her armoire.

Felicity: So what elegant gown did you bring from Paris for the summer ball this weekend? I don't have a clue what to wear!

Sara: Everything I own doesn't really suit me as I really am here in my home, Avonlea.

Felicity: Whatever do you mean? All your dresses are so beautiful!!

Sara: Well, all these dresses suit the Paris lifestyle. They're too fancy for Avonlea. I wouldn't want Eulalie Bugle saying that I look like I'm too good for Avonlea, which isn't true.

Felicity: You know it doesn't matter what Eulalie Bugle and the other town gossips think about you!

Sara stops flipping through the dresses when she finds a light purple dress in the stack.

Sara: Felicity, this purple gown is so astonishingly elegant!! Might I be able to wear it to the ball with a few alterations?

Felicity: Sure you can! That's the dress I was wearing the day I found Gus and it has brought me good luck! Gus always said that he loved that colour on me. I don't have anything to wear to this ball. It's important for me to look good at this ball with Gus as it is our first as a married couple.

Sara: Well, since you solved my fashion problem, I'll solve yours. Tomorrow we're going to Charlottetown and I'm going to buy you whichever dress suits your taste. Consider it a late wedding present.

Felicity: I can't thank you enough Sara!

SCENE: The beach. Same afternoon. The Dean children (Belle-Marie, Callie, Edgar, and Duffy) are running and flying kites near the surf. Felix and Cecily (since changed after the wedding; both are barefoot as well) are sitting on a long, nearby log looking on.

Cecily: They look so lively, don't they?

Felix: Yeah. Kinda reminds you of us when we were younger, doesn't it?

Cecily: Definitely. (Pause.) Felix, do you mind if I ask you something?

Felix: No. Ask away.

Cecily: Why did you and Elbert join the Navy? I mean, I know you're sick of working at the White Sands, but I can't help wondering if there's another reason for it.

Felix: First off, yeah, Elbert and I were bored with working at the hotel. Then one day, he brings in the brochure. I looked at it and was so intrigued, you know? I could join the Navy and be able to see the world--something I have wanted to do for so long.

Cecily: I remember. You were always going around, saying (changing her voice to make it sound masculine) "Someday I'm going to get away from this place and see the world." Also, "I'm so sick of this stupid farm, I can't wait to leave." (Then in her normal voice, after a pause of laughter from both...) Wouldn't you miss Avonlea, though? I mean, this is your home.

Felix: Of course I'll miss Avonlea; it is my home. But I feel as if I need to do this, like Providence is telling me it's time to stretch my wings, and to fly away from the nest and be free.

Cecily: I understand. You're almost eighteen and you want to get out of here. I may be younger, but I kinda know how you're feeling.

Felix: You do?

Cecily: Yeah. I suppose Louie--may he rest in peace--really had an impact on me at the Sanitarium. He helped me see the big picture: life.

Felix: It sure sounds like it. Too bad he died; I think I would've liked him.

Cecily: I'm sure of that.

Felix and Cecily laugh. Just then, the Deans approach them, nearly out of breath. Edgar hands Felix the string end of his kite.

Edgar: Come on...Felix...and Cecily!

Duffy (to Felix): Yeah. Besides, how many fun days are you going to have after you begin training in Halifax?

Cecily (to Felix): He's right, you know. Enjoy your freedom now, while you still can.

Pause.

Felix (to Cecily, in a sarcastic tone): Well, aye, aye, Captain!

Felix gets up and takes the string end from Edgar. The three males run off down the beach. Then Cecily, at the urging of Belle-Marie and Callie, gets up and follows them. We hear the six laughing and carrying on. Cut to...

SCENE: Dr. Snow's office. Afternoon. Gus is there, getting his eyes checked.

Dr. Snow (moving his index finger side to side in a line across Gus's eyes): Can you see my finger moving across your eyes?

He moves his finger across Gus's eyes a couple more times.

Gus: A little. But it's still kinda fuzzy.

Dr. Snow: Do you see any colours?

Gus: No color.

Dr. Snow (sitting down in front of Gus): Well, from where I sit, it looks like the clarity of your vision is coming back, but I'm beginning to think the accident may have damaged your cones--they're the parts of the eyes that allow you to see in colour.

Gus: Ya mean I'm gonna have dog's vision until I die?

Dr. Snow: Not necessarily. Your cones may repair themselves over the next few years, but I wouldn't be too sure about that.

Pause as Gus lets out a deep sigh.

Gus: Well, it would be great if my cones got better, but if that surgery ya did on my eyes helps me see Felicity's face again, even if only in black and white, I'd say it was well worth it.

Dr. Snow: I can agree with that. (Both men stand up.) Well, Gus, I'll see you again in about a month.

Gus: Thanks, doctor.

They shake hands, and Gus makes his exit. Cut to...

SCENE: The dining room at the Foundling Home. Evening. Gus, Felicity, and the Deans have just finished supper.

Felicity: Kids, I'm going to go to Charlottetown tomorrow with Sara, Cecily, and Izzy. I'll be gone most of the day, but I'll be back that evening. So, I want you all to be on your best behavior for Gus, alright?

The Deans: Yes, Felicity.

Felicity: Alright. You all go on upstairs and get ready for bed. I'll be up later to tuck you in.

The Deans make a mad dash up the stairs, leaving Gus and Felicity alone. They take some dishes to the kitchen.

Felicity: So, how was your eye exam?

Gus: Alright. I can see clearer, but there's still no colour. Dr. Snow says my cones may be damaged.

Felicity: Well, at least your vision is clearing. (She puts her dishes down and runs her hands up and down Gus's arms.) It doesn't matter if you get the color back in your sight. What matters is that it's getting better. And even if your sight was the same as it was when I found you--which was none--I'd still love you.

They lean in and share a long kiss. Afterward they go back to the dining room. Fade to...

SCENE: The road to the Pettibone house. Next day. Felicity and Sara are walking towards there, where Cecily is visiting Izzy and Arthur is home from vet school.

Sara: This is going to be great--the four of us spending time together just like the old days.

Felicity: Well, we're not that old. Things haven't changed that much from only a year ago, have they?

Sara: Well, I've left Avonlea and I'm starting my second year in the fall in PARIS! Weeks away from my home and then there's Montreal. Nanny Louisa has me going there as soon as possible.

Felicity: Yeah, and Cecily and Izzy have finished school and I...well, I've probably changed and matured the most. I'm married to Gus and run the first ever Avonlea Foundling Home. Who ever would have thought a year ago that this is what I'd be doing! Well, I always knew that Gus and I would be together somehow!

Sara: Well, what do you say we go get Izzy and Cecily and go get dresses before this day's half over.

Felicity: Okay, you stay here in the carriage and I'll go inside and get them.

Arthur Pettibone is now coming out the door surprising the girls.

Arthur: Sara, Felicity, it's been so long. I've missed all these friendly faces here at home. You guys, Izzy, Muriel and maybe even Father.

The girls are smiling and hugging and laughing with Arthur.

Arthur: Sara, aren't you supposed to be in Paris?

Sara: I came home for Felicity and Gus's wedding and I think I'll stay and visit for a while. School won't start for me until the fall.

Arthur: Yes, I have the summer off as well. Well, Felicity, I believe congratulations is due to you! I'm glad you and Gus are happy together.

Felicity: Thanks, Arthur. I know it must be hard for you to see me so happy with Gus. I know you'll meet your kindred spirit sometime. Just let Providence take its time.

Izzy (coming out of the house): Are you guys ready to go yet? The ball's this weekend!

Arthur: Okay, Iz. I'll let you ladies go. Nice seeing you again Felicity, Sara, Cecily, I'll see you all at the ball. You can meet my new friend Emma there, she's Mr. Tremayne's niece.

Sara, Felicity, Cecily, and Izzy wave goodbye as they make their way to Charlottetown. Fade to...

SCENE MONTAGE: The girls in Charlottetown.

1) Sara, Felicity, Cecily, and Izzy walk down the street. Once in a while, they stop and admire something (a dress, a music box, whatever) in a store window.

2) The girls are in a dress shop. Felicity is "modeling" dresses of various styles (off-the-shoulders, short sleeved, long sleeved, low neck) and colors (teal, lavender, red, and royal blue) on her chest.

3) Same shop, same events, except Izzy is doing the "modeling."

4) The girls eat lunch at an outdoor café, talking and laughing.

Fade to...

SCENE: The Avonlea train station. Late afternoon/early evening. The four of them are getting off the train, each holding a parcel (wrapped dresses, shoes, and the like). They all begin to head toward a wagon, when Izzy suddenly stops. The other three stop as well.

Felicity: What is it, Izzy?

Izzy turns to face the others.

Izzy: Do you all mind if I walk home alone? I have some thinking to do.

Sara: Like what?

Cecily: Or who?

Izzy: Nothing important. Please, let me go.

Felicity/Sara/Cecily: Sure./Fine./Whatever you want.

Izzy begins to walk down the road toward Avonlea. Meanwhile, the others get in the wagon and drive away, each with puzzled looks on their faces.

Sara: What's up with her?

Cecily: I don't know, but it doesn't surprise me as to why she's acting this way.

Felicity and Sara nod in agreement. Camera watches the wagon continue to drive away from the back.

SCENE: The lobby at the White Sands. Evening. Felix has just entered for his last shift at work. Simon is at the front desk waiting for him.

Simon (in a cheerful tone): Ah, Felix! Right on time for your last time at work.

Felix: Wouldn't have it any other way, Mr. Tremayne.

Simon: Oh, before I forget, I'd like you to meet my niece. (Calling upstairs) Emma!

Emma Tremayne ("portrayed" by Neve Campbell (Party of Five and the Scream trilogy)) descends the stairs.

Emma: What is it, Uncle Simon?

Simon: I just wanted you to meet one of my other employees, Felix King (gesturing toward Felix). Felix, this is my niece, Emma (gesturing back toward Emma).

Emma and Felix shake hands.

Felix: Pleased to meet you, Emma.

Emma: Likewise.

Simon: Tonight is Felix's last night working here.

Emma (saddened, to Felix): Aw. Did my uncle fire you?

Felix: No, he didn't fire me. I recently joined the Navy; I leave to train in Halifax next month. Tonight, I finish five years here. I decided it was time for a change.

Emma: I see. I wish you luck, then. (To Simon) I'm going back upstairs now.

Simon: I'll come see you later.

Emma (ascending the stairs): It was nice meeting you, Felix. See you at the ball tomorrow night.

Felix: Sure thing.

Emma is now upstairs and out of view. Simon turns to Felix.

Simon: She's nice, isn't she?

Felix: Yes, she is. Where is she from?

Simon: She was Scottish born and raised, but she moved to Toronto only a year ago. She's seeing Arthur Pettibone as well; they're going to attend the ball together. What about you? Are you escorting Izzy?

Felix: I highly doubt it. She hasn't said two words to me since Gus and Felicity's wedding.

Simon: Maybe she's just sorting out her feelings about the whole thing. She'll come to you when she's ready.

Felix: I hope so. She can't avoid me forever.

Simon: You're right; she can't. Especially not in a town the size of Avonlea. (He glances at his pocket watch; it's 9:00 in the evening.) Well, I'm going to go talk to Pierre, and I'm off to bed. Don't work too hard tonight.

Felix (with the infamous lopsided smile on his face): I'll try not to.

Simon pats Felix on the back and walks toward the dining room. Cut to...

SCENE: Gus and Felicity's bedroom at the Foundling Home. Fifteen minutes after last scene. Felicity is standing in front of a full-length mirror holding a lavender, floral-print dress up to her body. Her hair is braided, and she's wearing a nightgown and house coat as well.

Felicity (to her reflection): Hello, I'm Felicity Pike. (Pause) I'm Felicity Pike; it's a pleasure to meet you.

Unbeknownst to Felicity, Gus enters the room.

Felicity: How do you do? My name is Felicity Pike.

Gus (curious): What'cha doin', Felicity?

Felicity looks toward the door, surprised.

Felicity: Gus! I was just practicing for the ball tomorrow night, for when I introduce myself to people.

Gus: Guess our marriage hasn't totally sunk in yet, has it?

Felicity: Oh, it's sunk in. It's just I'm not used to introducing myself as "Felicity Pike" yet.

Gus walks over to her and wraps his arms around Felicity's waist.

Gus: You'll get used to it, Felicity Pike. I know it.

Felicity: You make it sound so simple.

Gus carefully turns Felicity so she's facing him.

Gus: Sounds simple enough to me.

They lean in and exchange a long, passionate kiss. Felicity wraps her arms around Gus, the dress still in her hands. Gus cups his hands around her face. As the kiss begins to get longer and deeper, we cut to...

SCENE: Izzy's bedroom at the Pettibone house. Evening. Izzy is sitting at her desk; her hair is braided and she is wearing a nightgown. She looks as if she's in deep thought. Her chin is resting in her left hand, and her left elbow is on the desk.

Izzy (voice-over – her thoughts): I can't believe Felix didn't tell me he enlisted. He used to tell me everything! Obviously he doesn't give a tinker's damn about me anymore. But you know what? Izzy Pettibone is not going to take it anymore! From now on, I will refuse to associate with Felix King. This is the last straw.

There is a knock at the door.

Izzy: Come in!

Muriel enters the room.

Muriel (surprised): Why aren't you in bed yet?

Izzy gets up from her desk.

Izzy: I was just about to go to bed. Really. I've just been thinking about some things.

Muriel: You mean about Felix?

Izzy (stunned): How did you know?!

Muriel: I can see it in your eyes. Whenever you think about Felix, you get this certain look in your eyes--one of either longing or worry. Usually it's longing; this time it's worry.

Izzy uncovers and climbs into her bed. Afterward, Muriel sits on the edge of it, facing Izzy.

Izzy: You're right; it was worry in my eyes. I mean, yesterday I saw Felix in uniform for the first time, and I wondered if he was doing the right thing. Sure, I looked fine on the outside, but I was crying on the inside, wondering what he was thinking. (Angrily) How could he do this? Felix was my best friend and my other half in a sense. Why would he do this to me?

Muriel (soothingly): Calm down, Izzy. I'm sure Felix had his reasons.

Izzy (still angry): Reasons?! What reasons?

Muriel: You should ask Felix.

Izzy: I vowed to myself never to associate with him again.

Muriel: You know that's going to be very difficult in a town the size of Avonlea.

Muriel reaches for Izzy's hand and takes it.

Izzy: Maybe I won't go to the ball tomorrow night.

Muriel: No. You should still go.

Izzy (in a "I have no choice" tone): Alright, I'll go. But please don't tell me that I'll have a good time.

Muriel (smiling): I wasn't going to, because that's going to depend on you and you alone, Izzy. Good night.

Izzy: 'Night, Muriel.

Muriel gets up and exits the room. Izzy leans to the right, blows her lantern out, and falls asleep.

SCENE: The kitchen at the White Sands. Late night. Pierre La Pierre is sitting at a table in the back with Simon. They're discussing Felix's enlistment.

Pierre (disturbed): And he enlisted without telling Izzy?!

Simon: I don't know if he told her or not! All I know is that she's been ignoring him since the wedding. That's all Felix told me, and that's all I know.

Pierre: I saw Izzy after the wedding a couple of nights ago. She seemed pretty, eh, distraught.

Simon (with intent in his eyes): Tell me.

FLASHBACK SCENE: The beach near the White Sands. Early evening (two before present moment). The sun is just beginning to set. We see Pierre walking with Rachel Lynde along the shore.

Pierre (voice-over): I was walking along the beach with Rachel. She was telling me about the wedding and everything that happened.

Rachel (in progress): ...and Felicity practically dragged Hetty into the church! (She starts to laugh.) She practically flung her into the pew next to Sara...and...

Suddenly they stop walking. In the distance we see Izzy looking out toward the ocean. A close-up on her face reveals her facial expression is similar to the one on Felicity's face in the beginning of "Out of the Ashes," before she tosses the flowers out to sea. Then we shoot back to Rachel and Pierre, each with concerned looks on their faces. Then we go back to Izzy's face.

Izzy (mumbling): Why, Felix? Why? Why did he do that to me?

Cut back to Rachel and Pierre.

Rachel: She'll kill herself with worry, that's what.

Pierre: Certainment.

Rachel (concerned): Should we do something?

Pierre: No. The fate of Felix and Izzy's relationship is out of our hands now. It's all up to Providence.

SCENE: Back to the kitchen at the White Sands. Present moment.

Pierre: She looked so sad. Part of me wishes Rachel and I had done something to help her.

Simon: Well, you were right then, and I know you're right now. It's all up to Providence.

Pierre: Yes. I hope Felix and Izzy can work through this.

Simon (sighing): Well, I'm going up to bed. Good night.

Pierre: Bonne nuit.

Simon works his way up the back stairs, leaving Pierre alone at the table in deep thought.

SCENE: The path near the beach cliffs. Early morning. Felix is walking home from work, obviously exhausted. From his point of view we see Elbert approaching him.

Felix (calling out): Elbert!

Both Felix and Elbert continue to walk toward each other. Soon after they meet.

Elbert: Did you just get off work?

Felix: Yeah. And for the last time, too. Are you headed over there?

Elbert: Yeah. Today's my last day. Are you going to the ball tonight?

Felix: Yeah. Are you bringing Cecily?

Elbert (with an "are you kidding?" tone): Of course. You bringing Izzy?

Felix: I don't think so. She hasn't said anything to me since Gus and Felicity's wedding.

Elbert: What did you do?

Felix: Basically, I joined the Navy and didn't tell her.

Elbert: Bad move, Felix. You messed up big this time.

Felix: I know. Have you seen her lately?

Elbert: Not since the wedding.

Felix (to himself): Good heavens. (To Elbert) Well, I suppose you should get over to the hotel.

Elbert: Yeah. See you tonight.

Elbert goes on toward the hotel, while Felix continues toward King Farm. Camera follows Felix as he continues walking. Then we cut to...

SCENE: The shack in front of the lighthouse. Morning. Izzy and Cecily are sitting on small benches in front of the shack.

Cecily: What's with you, Izzy? You've been acting strange since you, me, Sara, and Felicity went to Charlottetown yesterday. (Pause) But that doesn't surprise me as to why you've been acting so strange.

Izzy: He didn't tell me, Cess. We used to tell each other everything. Now he enlists and doesn't tell me?!

Cecily: I'm sure Felix had his reasons.

Izzy (angry): Reasons, my auntie! He had no reason not to tell me! None whatsoever! But Felix didn't tell me, and now I have every reason to be angry at him.

Cecily: You'll go to the ball tonight with him at least.

Izzy: I will not!

Cecily: Well, you get to tell him yourself, at least.

Izzy (confused): What do you mean, Cecily?

Cecily points toward the cliffs. Then we see Felix walking up the path toward them. Next we see Izzy develop an angry look on her face. She then gets up and runs off toward Rose Cottage and King Farm. Cut to Felix running after her.

Felix (running and yelling): Izzy! You've got to talk to me sooner or later!

Cecily (going after him): Felix, don't!

Cecily and Felix run into each other. She attempts to block him; he attempts to move past her, to no avail.

Felix (shocked): Cecily, what are you doing?! Let me go! (Louder) Izzy Pettibone, you come back here now!

Cecily grabs his wrists.

Cecily: Felix, she's long gone. Let it go for now, okay? (Softer) Let it go.

She and Felix go to sit down in front of the shack. Cecily puts an arm around him.

Felix: Why won't she talk to me, Cess?

Cecily: Obviously she's very upset over this whole ordeal, and she hasn't had a chance to sort out her feelings yet. She'll figure it out, Felix. Give her time. She will let you know how she feels about this.

She and Felix exchange hugs. As they get up to walk back to King Farm, we cut to...

SCENE: Felicity's room at the Foundling Home. Early afternoon. Felicity is working on altering her dress for Sara. Obviously, Sara is there as well.

Felicity: Well, now that you're caught up on the Avonlea news, tell me what's going on in Paris.

Sara: Of course, it's way more cultured than Avonlea any day. My classes begin at eight each morning and end at four each evening, with a two-hour lunch break beginning at eleven and lasting until one. I get Wednesdays and Sundays off, and I go to school from eight till noon on Saturdays. I also get two weeks off for Christmas and New Year's. I finished this year in May, and I go back in mid-September.

Felicity (awestruck): Wow! Don't you wish school was like that when we were young?

Sara: Definitely. I know Felix would like it very much. I mean, come on! Two hours for lunch? Felix would love that; I can tell you.

Felicity: I know. What do you do on your days off?

She slips the dress over Sara's head. They pull it down over Sara's small figure. While the next line is going on, Felicity is making adjustments to the dress.

Sara: I do some shopping. Not all the time, mind you. Then I'll go over to a little café for lunch--sometimes alone, sometimes with friends. Once in a while I'll take in a moving picture show, or I'll write to Booth. At night I usually end up studying for class, except for Saturday nights, when I visit friends from school.

Felicity (adjusting the skirt of the dress on Sara): I'm sure Aunt Hetty has asked you this already, but what about church?

Sara: No, she hasn't asked me about that. I didn't attend church regularly for a while because I couldn't find any Presbyterian churches in Paris. However, I've been attending Notre Dame for the last few months.

Felicity: A Catholic church?! Chef Pierre would love you now; I'm sure. However, if Aunt Hetty finds out, she'll probably ring your neck.

Sara and Felicity laugh.

Sara: I'm sure of that.

Felicity steps away from Sara and stands next to her, facing the mirror. We see both their reflections now. Sara is in awe; Felicity is smiling.

Felicity: Well, Sara, you look lovely. You will definitely turn heads tonight; that's for sure.

Sara: I can't thank you enough.

The young women hug. Cut to...

SCENE: Felix's bedroom at King Farm. Mid-afternoon. Felix is sitting at his desk, writing a letter. As the camera gets a close-up of the letter, we see it's addressed to Izzy.

Felix (voice-over; the contents of the letter):

Dear Izzy,
Are you ever going to forgive me? I don't want my enlistment to jeopardise our friendship. You must understand that before I go.

I have a feeling that you might try to stop me, like I stopped you from going to Boston with your aunt Lillian. Do me a favour: DON'T STOP ME! I feel as if I need to do this, as if it's Providential or something. I feel that after all is said and done, it'll be worth it.

Please don't take this letter the wrong way.

Love, Felix

As Felix finishes writing the letter, there is a knock at the door.

Felix: Come in!

The door opens, and we see Cecily walk in.

Cecily: Mother said you were up here. Is everything alright?

Felix: Yeah. I was just writing a letter to Izzy. Maybe this will get her to talk to me.

He hands the letter to Cecily. She takes it and reads it to herself. Afterward she hands it back to Felix.

Cecily: That was beautiful.

Felix: Thank you. Let's just hope Izzy thinks so. (Pause) Would you give it to her for me? I don't think she'll take it if I give it to her myself.

Cecily: Yeah, I'll do that. Do you want me to tell her it's from you?

Felix (after a moment): No. Tell her it's a surprise.

Cecily: I'll tell her that.

Cecily walks out of Felix's room and shuts the door behind her. Then we see Felix looking hopeful. Cut to...

SCENE: The foot of the stairs at the Pettibone house. Early evening. Arthur walks up to the stairs.

Arthur (yelling upstairs): Izzy! I'm off to the hotel! If you want to go with me, you better come on now.

Izzy (from upstairs): Coming, Arthur!

A moment later, Izzy comes down the stairs, sporting a light blue dress, with a somewhat low neckline and sleeves stretching to the elbows. Her hair is in a simple up-do. We see Arthur in awe of his sister's beauty.

Arthur: You look lovely.

Izzy: Thank you, Arthur.

Arthur: Shall we?

Arthur offers his arm to Izzy, which she latches on to. The camera follows them out of the house, and we see them all smiles. Cut to...

SCENE: The entryway to the Foundling Home. Early evening. Felicity and Sara are at the bottom of the stairs in their dresses.

Felicity (calling upstairs): Children! Come on down now! It's time to go.

Edgar and Duffy run down the stairs, both dressed in suits.

Edgar: We're ready, but the girls are still primping.

Duffy (sarcastically): Yeah. They have to look perfect.

Sara and Felicity laugh.

Sara: Of course they do. They're young women.

Gus comes in from outside.

Gus (to Felicity): Are you all ready yet? Alec and Janet are waiting for us.

Felicity: The boys are ready. Sara and I are ready. Belle-Marie and Callie are still upstairs.

Gus: Still primpin'?

Felicity: Yeah.

Just then, Belle-Marie and Callie descend the stairs. Belle-Marie is wearing a dress similar to the gown Felicity wore in the episodes "Heirs and Graces" and "Hearts and Flowers," except the sleeves are tighter and the color of the dress is teal. Callie is wearing a sky blue dress with sleeves stretching to the elbows.

Belle-Marie: We're ready now.

Callie (to Edgar and Duffy): Yeah. But not a word from you two on how long it took us to get ready.

Edgar (with a hint of sarcasm): Wouldn't dream of it.

Felicity: Alright, you all. Let's go.

The Deans, Felicity, Gus, and Sara make their way out the door.

SCENE: The entryway at the White Sands. Evening. Arthur and Izzy enter the hotel lobby. Simon Tremayne is at the front desk. He looks up from what he's doing as they come in.

Simon: Hello, Arthur. Izzy. (To Arthur) Emma will be down in a minute. She's still getting ready.

Arthur: I don't mind, though.

Simon (to Izzy): So, Izzy, how have you been?

Izzy: Moderately well.

Simon (almost in a whisper): Is it because of Felix?

Izzy: Yeah.

Simon: Well, keep your chin up and try to enjoy the evening, okay?

Izzy manages to show a small smile.

Izzy: I'll try.

Emma (from the top of the stairs; we don't see her): Arthur? Are you here?

We see Simon, Arthur, and Izzy look up toward the stairs. Then the camera focuses on Emma slowly walking down the steps. She is clothed in a forest green, off-the-shoulder dress, and her hair is up in a French twist. Close-up on Arthur, in total awe of her beauty. He walks over to the foot of the stairs and offers her his hand. She takes it, and he brings it up to his lips and kisses it lightly. Then she links her arm in his and they walk back toward Simon and Izzy.

Simon (also in awe): Emma, you look positively radiant.

Emma: Thank you, Uncle Simon.

She and Arthur then make their way into the ballroom. It is decorated with blue and white streamers, balloons, and blue and creme-colored mesh on the far side of the room to give off an ocean theme.

Arthur: This looks nice. Who decorated it?

Emma: Uncle Simon and some of the other employees.

Arthur: What about Miss King?

Emma (clueless): Who?

Arthur: Miss Hetty King. She's your uncle's business partner. She gets a say in just about everything he does.

Emma: I have no clue.

Simon (approaching Emma and Arthur): Miss King suggested the ball in the first place. The decorations were my idea, though.

Arthur: You have good taste, Mr. Tremayne.

Simon: Thank you.

SCENE: Same location. An hour later. Camera pans around the room as we see several couples dancing to a fast song. Then the camera cuts over to a side wall and we see Izzy swaying to the music, alone. She still looks very unhappy. In the background, we see Sara approach her.

Sara (from behind): Enjoying yourself?

Izzy nearly jumps, then turns to face Sara.

Izzy: Sara! You startled me!

Sara: Sorry. How come you're not out there dancing up a storm?

Izzy: I have nobody to dance with.

Sara: What about Felix? Where is he?

Izzy: Don't know; don't care.

Sara: Well, since I don't have anyone to dance with, either, will you give me the pleasure?

Izzy: Thanks. I'd love to.

Sara and Izzy make their way out to the dance floor and begin to dance. A minute later, the song ends, and all who were on the dance floor begin to go toward the various refreshment stands located along the sides of the room. As Izzy makes her way to one of them, she's stopped by Cecily.

Cecily: Hey, Iz.

Izzy: Hello, Cecily. Enjoying the evening so far?

Cecily: Yeah. What about you?

Izzy: It's going alright.

Cecily: Well, an anonymous person wanted me to give this (she reaches up her sleeve and takes out the note Felix wrote to her) to you (hands Izzy the note).

Izzy (taking the note): Thank you.

Izzy goes out to the lobby to read the note. She unfolds it and begins reading it. While she is reading it, we again hear Felix's voice-over of the contents. As it gets to "Do me a favour: DON'T STOP ME. I feel as if I need to do this...", Izzy becomes wide-eyed. At the end of the voice-over, Izzy puts her head down on the front desk, obviously impacted deeply by Felix's message. Unbeknownst to her, Felix is watching her from the entryway to the ballroom. As the camera focuses on him, we see him with a pained look on his face (similar to the one in "Lonely Hearts"), yet there's a glimmer of longing in his eyes. In the background we see Cecily and Elbert approach him. Elbert taps him on the shoulder, and Felix turns to face him.

Elbert (re-assuringly): Come on, Felix. Just leave Izzy with her thoughts. She has a lot going through her mind now; I'm sure.

Felix, Elbert, and Cecily make their way back into the ballroom. Cut back to...

SCENE: Back at the lobby of the White Sands. Directly after Felix goes back into the ballroom with Elbert and Cecily. Izzy is looking in that direction.

Izzy (to herself): I suppose I should give Felix a response, then.

Izzy goes behind the front desk and produces a few blank sheets of paper and a pen with a bottle of ink. She then begins to write.

Izzy (voice-over; the contents of her writing):

Dear Felix,
I want to tell you how I feel about your enlistment directly to your face, but for some reason, I can't put my emotions into words. Someday you will know how I feel, but not yet. Trust me, Felix; this is a lot harder to deal with than a little white lie.

Give me time, okay? I'm not ready for a confrontation. Not yet.

--Love, Izzy

Izzy folds up the letter and clasps it in her hands. Cut to...

SCENE: The White Sands ballroom. A couple of minutes later. Music is playing again, and many of the couples are dancing. The music this time is the song Anne and Gilbert danced to in the field during the second Anne movie.

The camera then focuses on Izzy walking into the room. She looks on as everyone else begins to dance. From her point of view we see the following couples:

1) Alec and Janet, smiling and laughing.

2) Gus and Felicity; he's whispering "sweet nothings" to her.

3) Chef Pierre and Rachel, smiling at each other (yikes!)

4) Elbert and Cecily, also smiling.

Now the camera looks at Felix, standing on the other side of the room, hands clasped in front of him. Then we see Sara nudge his left arm. He turns to look at her to see what she wants.

Sara: How about a dance with your favorite cousin?

Felix: Sure.

Sara takes Felix's hand. They walk toward the other dancers and begin to dance as well.

Sara: Enjoying the evening?

Felix: Yeah, so far. Are you enjoying your first trip to Avonlea in two years?

Sara: Immensely. It was wonderful visiting all of you and my home again. (Pause) Felix, I have to tell you something. I, like some of the others, am surprised you joined the Navy. I want to know why you did it? Didn't you like working here?

Felix: Of course I loved working here, Sara. I worked here for five years, and I loved it. But then it suddenly became boring, and I wanted a change. I love Avonlea--always will--but I'd like to get out of here and see more of the world, you know? I want a new challenge, plus adventure, and some danger, too. That's why I joined the Navy.

Sara (unsure, stunned): W-wow. You really feel strongly about this, don't you?

Felix: Yeah, I am.

Sara: But right now, your big challenge is to convince a certain young woman that you're doing the right thing.

Just then, the camera glances at Izzy, still in the doorway looking worried and clasping her hands together, as if she's nervous. A moment later, she loses it, rolls her eyes, lets out an angry sigh, and walks away.

SCENE: The White Sands lobby. Immediately after last scene. Izzy is standing facing the door, in tears. In the background we hear another song playing--the "Lonely Hearts" theme.

Izzy opens her hands, unveiling the letter for Felix. She looks at it, then over her shoulder in the direction of the ballroom, then back toward the door. A minute passes by, then Cecily emerges from the ballroom.

Cecily: What are you thinking about?

Izzy (not looking): What do you think?

Cecily (approaching Izzy): You can't keep your feelings about this bottled up forever, you know.

Izzy turns to face Cecily.

Izzy (wiping her eyes): I know. I'm still not ready to face him yet; that's all. (She refolds her note and hands it to Cecily.) Will you give this to Felix, please?

Cecily (taking the note): Sure. (Pause) You know, you should come back in. Mr. Tremayne's going to toast Gus and Felicity in a few minutes.

Izzy: No. You go on; I'm going to go home.

Cecily (surprised): Alone?! No, you're not. I'll take you home. I'll just go tell Elbert what's gong on.

Izzy: Fine.

Cecily goes back to the ballroom. Cut to...

SCENE: Ballroom. Immediately after last scene. Cecily walks in just as the "Lonely Hearts" theme ends. She walks over to Felix and Elbert, who are having some refreshments on the far side of the room.

Felix (to Cecily, surprised to see her): What? Cecily, what are you doing here? Where's Izzy?

Cecily: In the lobby. She wanted me to give you this.

She hands Felix the note, which he takes but doesn't open.

Cecily (to Elbert): Can you go home with Felix? I told Izzy I'd take her home; she's tired.

Elbert: Sure, Cess. I'll see you later.

He and Cecily exchange a quick kiss, and she makes her way out of the room. Then Elbert gives Felix a curious look.

Felix (annoyed): What?

Elbert: Aren't you going to read that (pointing at the note)?

Felix: Yeah, but not in front of you and everyone else!

Elbert lifts his hands, as if in surrender. Felix then walks out of the ballroom. A few seconds later, we hear the clanging of glasses. The camera focuses on Simon, holding a champagne glass with...well, champagne in it!

Simon: May I have your attention, please?

The camera glances at the crowd, who then looks over toward Simon. Silence falls on them.

Simon: Thank you. Right now I'd like to take a moment to congratulate, and introduce to you our newlyweds--Gus and Felicity Pike.

Gus and Felicity make their way, from the middle of the crowd, toward Simon. The rest of the crowd begins to cheer and applaud them. Cut to...

SCENE: The front steps outside the White Sands. Night. Felix is sitting on top of the steps, holding the note from Izzy in his hand.

After a minute's hesitation, he unfolds it and reads it. As he does, we again hear Izzy's voice-over of the letter's contents. He reads with intent in his eyes. After he finishes, he looks out in the direction of Avonlea, and the look of intent becomes one of longing.

Felix (softly, to himself): When, Iz? When are you going to tell me how you feel?

Cut to...

SCENE: White Sands ballroom. A couple of minutes later. Gus, Felicity, and Simon are still facing the crowd, Gus with his left arm around Felicity's waist, and Simon standing to his right. He is getting ready to toast the happy couple.

Simon (raising his glass): And now, if you would all raise your glasses, and join me in a toast.

Camera focuses on various members of the crowd as they raise their glasses in turn.

Simon: To Gus and Felicity Pike! May they share many years of happiness.

Crowd: Here, here!/To Gus and Felicity!/Cheers!

Glasses chink each other throughout the room. As this is going on, the camera zooms in on Felix walking quietly into the ballroom. At this point he has a somber expression on his face. The camera then cuts to Gus and Felicity, toasting each other and sharing a passionate kiss. Cut back to Felix, who is now smiling, happy for his sister and brother-in-law.
