Fair Lady

Chapters 19 and 20

(Narration by a third party)

Izzy woke up the next morning to the sound of a pounding noise at her bedroom door. As she opened the door someone came in, picked her up and gave her a kiss. She then realized that it was Felix on the other end. When she realized this she asked, “Felix what are you doing here?”

He replied, “I heard some rumors from ‘The gossip ladies’ that you are getting married to someone else!” Izzy replied “Well that is only partly true…Grandmother is forcing me to marry him. And I don’t know how to tell her about us!”

There was silence in the room for a moment and Izzy then realized something and she said, “Felix we’re in my bedroom alone! What if someone saw us? It would be a disgrace to both of our family’s.”

Felix replied, “You’re right Iz, I’m sorry that I put you in this position. I should have thought of that. Why don’t you put a dress on and I’ll meet you in the kitchen downstairs once your finished okay?”

“Thanks Felix” Izzy said, shutting her door.

Once Izzy got downstairs she found Felix at the table and she said, “Now Felix, what are we going to do?”

“Why don’t we discuss our situation with her, she may understand.” Felix said softly, holding her hand.

Then a voice interrupted them, “Isolde, who is this?” It was Oswald.

“Um...Oswald, this is Felix my, um...other fiancé.”

“You have another fiancé?”

“Yes, she does.” Felix said standing to his feet.

“Thank goodness.” Oswald said and continued, “I was trying to think of a way to tell you that I already have a fiancée Izzy, I was going to leave a note this morning telling you and your family that I had eloped with her, my fiancée that is.”

“Oswald, how…why…”

“Sorry Izzy I got to run!”

“Bye Oswald” Felix and Izzy said simultaneously. After Oswald had left Izzy stated, “Now all we have to do is explain all of this to grandmother.”

“You don’t have to explain anything to me Isolde. I heard everything,” Grandmother said coming down the stairs. “I’ve been listening to your conversation ever since this young man came pounding on your door. And Isolde, I’ve decided that he’s a fine young man. And you may marry him.”

Dear Oswald,
A lot has happened since you had eloped with your girl. Felix and I are to be wed this afternoon, and it is almost time for me to walk down the aisle. Father, Arthur, Morgan, Mr. King, Felix, and Gus finished fixing up the cabin that we will live in. I’m sorry that I must make this short but I must get ready!

Your Friend,
Isolde Pettibone (Soon to be King)

“Cecily! Look at this!” Izzy said, sounding very excited, “I have the wedding poem all done! I have ‘something old’, which is my Mother’s veil that Father gave me. Muriel gave me ‘something new,’ which was the lace that I used for the hem of my dress. Felicity let me borrow shoes for the part that says ‘something borrowed,’ and you just fulfilled the ‘something blue’ part! Thank you for giving me such beautiful blue flowers!”

“Well Izzy,” Clive said to her, as they were about to walk down the aisle together, “you’ve picked a good man, I couldn’t pick a better one myself!”

“Thank you Father, you don’t know how much that means to me!”

Then the sound of the wedding music was heard. She had picked the same arrangement that Felicity had at her wedding. When Izzy got down to the aisle, where her beloved Felix stood, all she remembered was that his half-smile would always be there for her and, most importantly, his love would always be there. They said their vows to Mr. King, and all who were there, showing everyone that their love would last forever. All of a sudden Izzy popped out of her dreamland and she heard Mr. King say, “By the power invested in me, I now pronounce you man and wife. Felix, will you do the honor of kissing your wife?”

Felix replied with his half boyish smile, “You betcha! I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time; I’m not letting it slip away!”

At the reception...

“Felix...Felix King,” Hetty said, “May I make an announcement?”

Felix replied, “Sure, Aunt Hetty. Why not?”

“Excuse me…Excuse me! May I have your attention, please? I have just gotten a telegram from Sara. She has just informed me that she and Booth are now married, and that they will be visiting next week.”

“Thank you, Aunt Hetty, now if you will excuse me, my newly acquired bride and I will be off on our honeymoon, you all may stay here as long as you want. Goodnight, and God Bless!"

As they got to the doorway of their cabin, Felix unlocked the door and was about to go inside when Izzy said, smiling, “Aren’t you forgetting something? Remember, you’re supposed to carry me over the threshold.”

“How could I forget that? I’ve been trying to think up an excuse for holding you in my arms, so thank you for suggesting one!”

“Felix, you're so good to me.” Izzy said as he was picking her up.

Felix replied, “I know. I have something to tell you. While I was overseas, I found an engraving shop; it had this book for you to look up names, and it would tell you what his or her name means! Well, I looked up yours, sweetheart, and your name meant ‘Fair Lady’. As I look at you now, your not only a fair lady, As I look at you now, your not only a fair lady, but your beautiful...no, wait--you're very beautiful, and last but not least, gorgeous. Plus, your kiss at the altar today could have made lightning strike.

“I just realized something,” Izzy said. “You haven’t tried to kiss me since the kiss to seal that we were married. Why is that?”

“Because I wanted to do this.” First he kissed her head, then her nose, then the lips. And from that moment on, he took her into marital bliss and things couldn’t go any better for the both of them.
