Fair Lady

Chapters 11 and 12

Only two weeks until the wedding! Tomorrow Felix and I will ask Mr. King to do the ceremony. Yes, we know that Mr. King is not a minister, but he is qualified. Since my father is giving me away, We decided that Mr. King should be asked to do the ceremony.

My wedding dress is almost finished! It's the one Mother wore at her wedding, but I'm sewing buttons on and other things like that. It has buttons going all the way down the back. It has a neck like Felicity's wedding dress, but it has lace around the collar and a little more oval-shaped. It has long sleeves that are made of lace, so it won't be so hot when I'm outside for the wedding.

Felix and I have decided that instead of church wedding, we're going to have one outside, on the cliffs beside the lighthouse. Felix and I have always wanted a unique wedding, Felix has always loved the lighthouse because that's where he found out that I liked him.

"Remember," I said to Felix, "when I, or should I say Sara, wrote you those anonymous notes? And you thought I was well...Greta?" I continued, "I had gotten all dressed up. Even if I had a hat that looked like a plate, I did that for just for you. But this time since I'm marrying you I'm doing this for the both of us, I don't even care if something bad happens at the wedding, I just want it to be you, me and Aunt Hetty."

Felix looked dreamy eyed until I said "Hetty." Then he asked, "Why Aunt Hetty?"

I answered him saying, "I was only teasing you silly! Do you think of all people Hetty on our honeymoon? I wouldn't mind Digger. But Hetty?"

Then I asked Felix, "The first night of our honeymoon are we staying in a boxcar, train seat, or hotel?"

He replied, "Actually we're staying in a cabin behind King Farm. Sara, Andrew, Peter, Felicity, and I, use to play in it when we were kids."

Felix had to go back to King farm, but I stayed at the lighthouse for awhile to sort my thoughts out. I had a lot of questions that couldn't be answered. So I just stayed there and just thought of what I was going through. Felix was telling Mr. Tremayne tomorrow that he was quitting. It had hurt him so much to quit the hotel. I kept thinking, Maybe we should put the wedding off.

Today I'm telling Felix that I'm calling the wedding off. Not the engagement, the wedding. I want to have Felix for at least one month. When I told Felix the news, he looked he was a mixture of relief, sadness, and felt like he had lost his best friend. Then he asked, "Why?"

I replied, "I'm just not ready for married life, especially with you sending me back at the end of August. I want you at least for a month after our wedding day."

Felix then said, "I understand, I was also was having second thoughts about us getting married."

"No, I mean...I know I want to get married to you, but it's too soon."

He continued, "While I'm away, I want you to fix the cabin up, because after we're married we'll live in it. And I want to seal it with a kiss."

I said smiling, "I promise," and we sealed it with a kiss.

Felix had to go get his job back at the White Sands, and I had to catch up on some sleep that I loss last night. Now I know for sure that he's the man I'm marrying.
