Fair Lady

Chapters 9 and 10

For the next ten days Cecily and I went shopping, we went shopping for everything possible. Yes, I know that we have a little over two months until the wedding, but the General Store in Carmody was having a fabric sale, so Cecily insisted that I go with her.

Today Felix got a letter in the mail from a commanding officer in England. It said:

Mr. King,
We need you in England right away; we need you to decode some messages. Here is your train money and boat ticket. We will need you by August the 11th.

Col. Vincent McCuston

When I heard this I said, "But Felix, that's ten days before our wedding! Not counting the honeymoon!"

Felix replied, "I know, I know." There was a pause and he added, "We could move the wedding up to the week before I leave." Then he whispered, "We could still have the honeymoon but we'll have it in England instead of New York. {He was talking in his regular voice by now.} So maybe while you're with me I might have a little 'encouragement.' So would you like to move with me to England?"

I replied, "Yes, yes, yes! I will move with you to England!"

Well Felix told me the next day that he called the Colonel and told him about our situation he was kind enough to give us a honeymoon cottage! When we told our parents our decision they were excited for us but we could tell that they were a little disappointed that we were going to move to England, but they agreed with us! So the new date for our wedding was going to be August the fourth.

I have picked the flowers for the wedding. They're going to be Lady Slippers. Mother had them at her wedding, so I thought that it would be proper to have them in mine {to honor her since she won't be there}. Just think, in a little over a month I will no longer be Ms. Isolde Pettibone but will be Mrs. Felix King.

Felix said that if he doesn't get done decoding by the end of August, I should come back to Avonlea, and wait for him to return home. We argued for hours about this matter; I didn't want to leave Felix only less than a month of our wedding date! Finally, I agreed but I am going to push him to get his work done.

Felix and I saw Felicity today. She is getting quite big… She has a little less than 2 months to go until she might have the twins. She said, "Dr. Snow said that since I'm having twins, they might be two to three weeks early than normal births." She added, "I get tired quite easily, and the doctor said that I should rest a lot since they are my first babies."

After we finished talking to Felicity, Felix walked me home.

After Felix left I wrote a letter to Arthur and told him of the wedding plans Felix and I had made. I guess today was an event full day. I just hope that Felix gets done with his work so I won't have to come back to Avonlea without him. That would be devastating. I just hope that this difference doesn't come between us.
