In the chair again for the Drowsy tour

Jonathan Crombie After the touring version of The Drowsy Chaperone launches in Toronto, Jonathan Crombie will once again portray the “Man in Chair”, after doing so back in the spring for five weeks on Broadway, once again taking over for Bob Martin–who will be in the Chair for the Toronto launch.

The tour starts in Toronto on September 19 and is slated to end in Los Angeles next July. Jon will take his “seat” in the Chair when the musical goes to Cleveland on October 16.

Meet the Man in Chair…the ex-Gilbert Blythe?!

Jonathan Crombie Beginning next week, and for the next four to five weeks after that, anyone who goes to see The Drowsy Chaperone on Broadway will get to see Jonathan Crombie as the “Man in Chair”.

Jon isn’t new to Drowsy. Years ago, during the Toronto Fringe Festival, he played one of the gangsters.

Before heading out to NYC, he had been working on a documentary about Toronto’s public library system, particularly about the year-long waiting list to see the only VHS copy of the movie Ishtar, a 1987 satire made on an egregious budget about desert epic films which Jon considers a guilty pleasure. The VHS is lost; the film is not on DVD. Work on this will continue after Jon departs from Drowsy.
