New theatre festival in PEI

LM Montgomery In lieu of the 100th anniversary of Anne of Green Gables, a new theatre festival focusing on plays dating from LM Montgomery’s life will begin in Cavendish, PEI, next month.

Its inaugural season will see productions of The Wind in the Willows (based on the 1908 book by Kenneth Grahame, adapted by the theatre festival’s artistic director Duncan McIntosh), Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest (first performance in 1895), and George Bernard Shaw’s 1933 play Village Wooing.

Previews begin on June 20—the anniversary of Anne’s publication; the festival itself will run from June 27 to August 31, at the Church in Avonlea Village in Cavendish.
