Molly works the summer

Molly Atkinson Molly Atkinson will be on-stage in Toronto this summer during the Summerworks Festival.

She will be in the play Mexico City, which is being mounted alongside another one, Yogyakarta. In the former, her character forms a “first-world romance” with another man, played by Brendan Gail, against the backdrop of a Mexico City slum. The play may be seen from August 3-11 at the Tarragon Theatre’s extra space. Tickets may be purchased online via totix.ca

Summerworks itself runs from August 2-12 at various venues throughout the city.

No aspiring Annes yet

General Anne News It’s been a week into the search for a new Anne for Kevin Sullivan’s prequel, and — so far — no one seems to be biting, according to the Toronto Star. Online auditions must be uploaded to YouTube by July 20. The favourites — which will be selected by fans — will then be screentested in one of seven Canadian cities (including Toronto), with filming to begin in September, in time for a Spring 2008 release.
